Whiplash Accident Claims

Whiplash Compensation Claims are extremely common. Whiplash is a condition brought upon by the sudden movement or jerking of the neck. It is common when hit from behind which is why it so often occurs in car accidents. When the neck undergoes a sudden jerk backwards and then forwards, the little bones within the neck become misplaced which causes the surrounding nerves to become pinched. This is what causes the pain in the neck and sometimes down into the shoulders too.
Whiplash can last months or even years. Some sufferers say the neck never returns to normal. Unfortunately there is not a huge amount that can be done during whiplash treatment. A neck brace can be worn and physiotherapy can be carried out, but whiplash injury treatment can take time and may not always be very effective, especially in severe cases.

Aside from the pain in the neck, other signs of whiplash are dizziness, vomiting and even a slight numbing or tingling sensation in other parts of the body. Memory loss can occur as well as blurred vision, headaches and fatigue. Signs do not always show up straight away and it can take several days for the full effects of whiplash to be felt after the accident or incident that brought it about. With chronic whiplash, sufferers can be prone to depression, especially if the pain has lasted several months, and insomnia due to discomfort in bed can be a problem too.

If you have been in a car accident, even a very minor one, it is important to seek medical attention straight away. You could well be suffering from whiplash but have not felt the effects yet so it is always best to be checked over for a doctor. If you know that whiplash has occurred, your doctor will devise a whiplash treatment plan to help the neck recover and be rid of the pain. If you don’t get checked over right away after a motor accident, then making a claim could become more difficult in the future too.

There are a few tips for preventing the chances of developing whiplash in the event of an accident too:
  1. Use headrests when driving as this reduces the movement of the neck in an accident. Make sure they are situated at the correct height too.
  2. Stick rigidly to the whiplash treatment plan, never stressing the neck during treatment and carrying out only approved exercises.
  3. Speak to a doctor is the pain is persisting as there may be further whiplash treatment available that will help.
